We will set sail in a private boat from the port of Nauta sailing along the Marañón River for 3 hours upstream. During the trip you will be able to enjoy the beautiful landscape and you will have the possibility to see the gray (Sotalia fluviatilis) and pink river dolphins (Inia geoffrensis), diversity of birds such as the yellow billed tern (Sternula superciliaris), olivaceous cormorant (Phalacrocorax olivaceus), great egret (Ardea alba), snowy egret (Egretta thula), ring kingfisher (Megaceryle torquata), among many others.
When we arrive to the community of Santo Domingo, this will be our entry point to the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve; we will obtain the entry permit for our adventure.
Inside the reserve, we will continue navigating for 30 minutes until we reach the community of 20 de Enero.
Next, we will sail deeper into the virgin forest and make an excursion in search of the river dolphins and we will explore the area in search of primates. If you like, you can swim in the Yanayacu River. Also you can test your skills in the artisanal fishing of piranhas. The guide will give you the instructions and all the necessary equipment for fishing. If you like you can keep and cook your best catch for lunch.
Remember to be very attentive during the walk, paying close attention to our surroundings, especially to the canopy of the forest, trying to identify sloths and species of monkeys that will find themselves feeding and carrying out their daily activities in their natural habitat. You can also see varieties of birds, insects, arachnids, reptiles and amphibians. If we are lucky we can see different species of boas, including the anaconda or the Amazonian jaguar when it comes to drink water on the shores of the lagoons.
We will enjoy the beautiful landscapes and then return to our boat to start the return to the community of 20 de Enero. Make yourself comfortable and enjoy the return trip where you can see birds, reptiles and mammals on the banks of the river, as well as the dolphins that will accompany us during our return trip.
It’s time to enjoy a typical dinner of the Amazon rainforest prepared with fresh products from the region on board of the boat.
Once in the community of 20 de Enero, you will have the opportunity to buy beautiful handicrafts that the inhabitants make with their own hands and at the same time your purchase will be contributing to local development.
