We will leave from your accommodation in the morning aboard a private vehicle to the main square, where our guide will tell you the history of the city of Iquitos. On one side of the main square we will be able to see the neo-gothic cathedral of Iquitos. On our way through the square we will visit The Obelisk of Heroes, which is a memorial dedicated to the honorable heroes of the region who fell during the Pacific War.
We will continue our journey to go to The Iron House, designed by the renowned French architect Gustave Eiffel and is known for his work on the construction on the main square of Iquitos. Later, we will visit the Former Palace Hotel u, one of the first luxury hotels in Peru which was built during the rubber rush in 1908, which housed european high society characters, rich and powerful politicians during the 1900’s. While in the area, we will go to the main Boulevard of the city that corresponds to the southern part of the Malecón of Tarapacá, which has a beautiful view of the Itaya River. Next, we will visit the Museo Amazónico, built in 1863 and considered the nation's cultural and historical heritage. Restored in 1999, it became an important museum of history and culture of the region. It displays a beautiful mural decoration in carved wood and a set of antique furniture. The most impressive feature of the museum is the collection of 80 sculptures made of fiberglass with life-size representations of the main Amazonian native communities of Peru, Brazil and Venezuela
Next we will head to the eccentric market of Belen, where you can buy fish, meat, fruits, handmade cigarettes, natural medicine, and many exotic things that you will only find in the Amazon jungle. We will also visit the "Paquito passage" exclusively dedicated to the sale of medicinal plants and typical drinks. Later we will walk towards the lower area of Belen to reach the houseboats. There we will take a typical boat of the place (peque-peque) and we will sail along the Itaya River to see the houseboats.
Then we will continue our tour for 20 minutes in a private vehicle to the Amazon Rescue Center (CREA), whose purpose is to develop rescue, rehabilitation and release programs for specimens of aquatic mammals and endangered wildlife. Within the enclosure you will have the possibility to closely see manatees, different species of turtles, alligators, river wolves and many other species.
Once we have finished our tour of the CREA, we will head towards the Quistococha Tourist Park. Here we can meet different wildlife species such as cats, primates, birds, reptiles, older rodents and also flora in their botanical field.
After the walk we will take a break and enjoy a delicious regional lunch, typical of the Amazon Rainforest, prepared with local products and accompanied by natural juices inside the Quistococha Tourist Park.
Now it's time to relax on the beautiful white sand beach of the Quistococha lagoon, if you like you can get in the water and swim in its waters that according to popular belief have healing powers for pains and disease.
Afterwards our break it will be time to return to the city of Iquitos.
